Sony Releases First Trailer of Whitney Houston Biopic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”

Sony has released the first trailer for Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” biographical drama.

Naomi Ackie, who starred in “The End of the F***ing World,” will portray the illustrious vocal powerhouse alongside Ashton Sanders as Bobby Brown and Stanley Tucci as Clive Davis. Whitney’s parents, Cissy Houston and John Houston will be portrayed by Clarke Peters and Tamara Tunie.

“I Want to Dance With Somebody” is a “no-holds-barred picture of the deep and varied woman behind The Voice,” according to Sony.

The movie will detail the life of a New Jersey choir girl who became one of the best-selling and most prestigious recording artists of all time.

From her biggest hits like “Greatest Love of All,” “I Have Nothing,” and, of course, the song that inspired the film’s title, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” to acting in “The bodyguard” alongside Kevin Costner, playing the Fairy Godmother in “Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.”

Whitney also produced the Disney movies “The Princess Diaries” and “The Cheetah Girls.

Houston later struggled with drug addiction and was found dead in 2012 in a Beverly Hills hotel bathtub at 48.

“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” is directed by Kasi Lemmons from a script by “Bohemian Rhapsody” screenwriter Anthony McCarten.
Sony plans to release the movie on Dec. 21.
