NBA superstar Steph Curry’s parents are headed for divorce after 33 years of marriage. TMZ reports that Sonya Curry, 55, filed paperwork back in June to end her marriage to Dell, 57.
The couple confirmed the split to PEOPLE in a joint statement, telling the outlet they had been separated before ending their marriage.
“After exploring a trial separation over the past year and much thoughtful consideration, we have decided to end our marriage. As this comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus and desire is for our family’s continued happiness,” they said.
We stay committed to and supportive of our children and grandchildren and will remain on connected paths,” they added.
The two asked for privacy and prayer as they move forward.
Sonya and Dell met during their time as athletes and students at Virginia Tech. They tied the knot in 1988. Along with Steph, the two are also parents to Philadelphia 76ers player Seth, 31, and daughter Sydel, 26.
