Lil Yachty is facing heavy criticism after dropping a controversial lyric mentioning George Floyd during a live stream, and former NBA star Stephen Jackson, who was close friends with Floyd, was quick to call him out.

During a preview with PlaqueBoyMax, Yachty rapped, “Put my knee up on her neck, I went George Floyd,” a reference to Floyd’s 2020 death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.

Jackson, who played 14 seasons in the NBA, took to Instagram Live and blasted the bar.

“I’m trying not to pay attention to you idiots, but like, it’s just hard, bro. Lil Yachty, you been wack my n***a! You think saying George Floyd’s name and trying to use his name in a bar is gonna make people like yo wack a** music, my n***a?!”

“That s**t weak! Y’all the only era that feels like demeaning the dead and saying that s**t is cool. It ain’t! It ain’t!” he added.

Jackson, who grew up with Floyd in Texas, warned Yachty to leave his friend’s name out of his music.

“That some weak a** s**t Yachty! But let somebody die in yo’ family, we gon’ do a whole skit about it and see how funny it is! Cut that s**t out!”

Hours later, Jackson said he and Yachty spoke privately and resolved the issue. The QC state offered an apology for the lyric, which was something that resonated with Jackson.

“I salute him,” he shared, crediting the rapper for taking accountability.

Yachty has yet to release an official statement.
