Stevie J has finally been released from jail after failing to pay over a million dollars worth of child support. Stevie J, real name Steven Jordan, was released Wednesday, June 11, 2014, from the Fulton County Jail after posting a $25,000 bond.
Stevie was arrested Monday for missing several child support payments for his now 14 and 17 year old children with an ex-girlfriend. He’s also missed several court dates in the past. In 1999 while the children were infants, the Grammy award winning producer was ordered to pay nearly $6,600 per month for both children. The amount increased to nearly $8,600 in 2011. His 17-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl currently live with their mother in Pennsylvania. Prosecutors say Stevie J earned $193,000 on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta and another $100,000 from music royalties in the first eight months of 2013 so he has the means to make his child support payments. “Steven Jordan failed to pay over $1 million in child support even while earning substantial income from his participation in a reality television show,” U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said.
Stevie, on the other hand, is just happy to be home. “It feels great. I’m home with my wife,” Stevie J tells The Associated Press shortly after his release, while his wife Joseline Hernandez sat next to him. “I’m just ready to get this behind me.”
