Surya Bonaly, a celebrated figure in the world of ice skating, is devastated after revealing that her home in Las Vegas was burglarized, with her cherished medals taken in the process. The burglary reportedly occurred over several days while Bonaly was in Minnesota tending to her mother, who is undergoing treatment for multiple forms of cancer. Tragically, Bonaly herself is also battling breast cancer, Fox 5 Las Vegas reported.
Thieves allegedly broke in over four consecutive days, ransacking the home and targeting her most valuable items, including medals from her European and World Championship victories. Surveillance footage reportedly shows multiple individuals entering her residence, some of whom appear to be wearing delivery-style vests. Bonaly believes the theft was part of an organized effort.
She has filed a report with the Las Vegas Metro Police, and the investigation is ongoing. Bonaly is urging local residents and pawn shop owners to contact authorities if they come across any foreign gold or silver medals.
“It hurts. Those medals represent years of sacrifice, hard work, and history,” Bonaly said.
In an Instagram post, she shared images of her medals and urged pawn shop owners to reach out if they turn up.
