Taco Bell Sued For Falsely Advertising The Amount of Beef Used In Some Menu Items
The fan-favorite Mexican Pizza will make a historic return to Taco Bell this May. From performances to petitions, Taco Bell taps into fans’ pent up excitement to celebrate the return of the beloved item, but saucy fan pleas alone aren’t all it took to get the Mexican Pizza back to menus. To expedite its return, the masterminds in the Taco Bell test kitchen worked to streamline operations and ingredient sourcing, and leave a lighter footprint at the same time.

Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza Finally Returns to Menus

Pizza lovers and Taco Bell goers can enjoy the Mexican pizza…again!

The Mexican pizza returned Thursday after it left menus in November 2020 to decrease spending for the company with the pandemic. But now, the $4.49 menu item is back. And it’s here to stay, forever.

The Mexican Pizza consists of a tortilla shell-filled pizza sauce and beans or ground beef. It is topped with another tortilla shell that’s smothered with more sauce, cheese, and chopped tomatoes, CNN reports. The fan-favorite item was introduced by the fast-food chain in 1985 and was originally called the ‘Pizzazz Pizza.

When the pizza was removed in 2020, fans were upset and rallied a petition with over 200,000 signatures to bring the popular menu item back. Vegetarians were the most upset as the menu item is one of few “fun” meatless items.

And to bring more hype to the pizza, Taco Bell enlisted Dolly Parton and Doja Cat to make a musical stream set on TikTok on May 26.

The packaging for the pizza is also more sustainable. In a statement, the company says that Taco Bell “worked to streamline operations and ingredient sourcing, and leave a lighter footprint at the same time.”
