A Charlotte teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student was found dead after an apparent murder-suicide.
The 63-year-old teacher Emma Ogle, had been suspended from Garinger High School with pay pending the outcome of the investigation into accusations that she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Ogle was arrested on Halloween but had bonded out of jail. Police officials reported that a SWAT team found Ogle and her husband, Michael, dead inside their home Wednesday morning.
Detectives said a relative went to the home in the 9800 block of Hambright Road in Huntersville when Michael Ogle, 59, failed to show up for work Wednesday morning.
That family member told police she saw Emma Ogle inside the house holding a gun.
By the time swat officers entered the home, they found both people dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
“We are going with the murder-suicide,” Huntersville Police Department officer Odette Saglimbeni told People. “She was facing some issues.”
Saglimbeni said investigators are still trying to determine an exact motive.
“Until we can really confirm a motive we don’t really have one at this point,” she says. “Based on those charges [of sex with a minor] we would assume that may have had some part in it, but we don’t know if it was the only reason why she did that,” Saglimberi said.
