Earlier this week, authorities arrested a man who allegedly hurled racial slurs at a McDonald’s employee and shot her last year after being upset over his order.
WREG-TV reported that Charles Connors, 61, was taken into custody by police on Tuesday in connection with the shooting at a McDonald’s restaurant in Memphis on Oct. 11, 2021.
According to Shelby County jail records, Connors is charged with two counts of criminal attempt, first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of firearm possession to commit a felony.
In December, Investigators identified him as the culprit after receiving information from his credit card, which had been used just before he allegedly opened fire.
The news outlet reported that a bullet almost struck one of its employees.
“If I would’ve been over one inch, just a centimeter, an inch, a centimeter, that would’ve been the back of my head,” Terrika Means said. “I see flashes of it every time.”
According to Means, Connors arrived at the fast-food restaurant during a shift change that evening. When he tried to order, an employee told him to wait, but Connors drove up to the drive-thru window and ordered anyway.
She said Connors cursed at the employee, then spoke to her at next to the window.
“I asked him how he was doing, and next thing you know, I was like, ‘I was just informed that you just disrespected, you know, one of my young ladies, and she’s just a young lady, she’s just a girl,'” she said.
Authorities said Means issued Connors a refund when he asked for one, and he began yelling racial slurs and cursing at her. A moment later, Connors pulled out a gun and opened fire.
Means said, “when I closed the window and took two steps, that’s when I felt the fire come across my neck.
Connors is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 16 after allegedly admitting to being at the restaurant and shooting inside.
