Tesla has recalled more than 100,000 cars because of issues with overheating process systems.
Nearly 130,000 of Tesla’s vehicles will have to be sent back to the shop over an issue that occurs when the cars are undergoing fast-charging, PC Mag reports. The processor that sends power to the infotainment system is overheating, and it’s also causing the vehicles’ touch screens to restart or glitch.
The issue was first spotted back in December when testers were analyzing the processor during a routine check. Following an investigation, Tesla engineers analyzed processors that were replaced. Those who the recall may have impacted will receive a free over-the-air (OTA) software update.
The cars that were affected include the 2021 and 2022 Model S and Model X, along with the 2022 Model 3 and Model Y.
“A lagging or restarting CPU may prevent the center screen from displaying the rearview camera image, gear selection, windshield visibility control settings, and warning lights, increasing the risk of a crash,” said National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in a statement, per PC Mag.
