Texas Father Wanted In Connection To Daughters’ 2008 Murders Arrested

The Associated Press is reporting that a Texas father accused of killing his teenage daughters in 2008 was arrested Wednesday, according to the FBI.

Egyptian-born Yaser Abdel Said, 63, was arrested in a small town about 36 miles northwest of Dallas on a capital murder warrant. He had been wanted in connection with the slaying of Sarah Yaser Said, 17, and Amina Yaser Said, 18 since they were killed on New Years Day in 2008.

“Even after 12 years of frustration and dead ends, the pursuit for their killer never ceased,” Irving Police Chief Jeff Spivey said in a statement. “Today’s arrest of their father, Yaser Said, brings us closer to ensuring justice is served on their behalf.”

The sisters were found shot to death in a cab outside a motel in Irving. One of the sisters called 911 to say she was dying, but most of what she said to the 911 dispatcher was unintelligible, and she was unable to provide their location.

“Help,” police had determined it was Sarah who called 911, cried into the phone. “I’m dying. Oh my God. Stop it.”

They were ultimately located by someone who called 911 about an hour after Sarah called, who saw the girls in the cab with blood. “They don’t look alive,” the caller told the dispatcher.

The girl’s mother had fled with the girls a week before they were murdered out of fear that Said would cause “bodily harm” after threatening Sarah for going on a date with a non-Muslim. Another family member referred to the murder as an “honor killing,” in which a woman is killed by a relative to protect her family’s honor.
