Shankquia Peterson miami mass shooting

Third Victim Dies Following Miami Mass Shooting

Shankquia Peterson was one of the 23 individuals shot in Miami-Dade County early Sunday morning during a rapper release party. Police stated Thursday that the 32-year-old mother of a 12-year-old boy was killed.

According to relatives, Peterson had a bullet stuck in her head, so medics placed her in a medically induced coma. She passed away a little after 3 p.m.

Last night, Peterson’s family said in a statement, “Our family wants the gun violence to end, for these predators to be caught. This shooting has shaken the family to its core.”

Desmond Owens and Clayton Dillard III were among the others killed in the shooting. They were both 26. On Thursday, Owens’ mother and other relatives paid a visit to the crime scene.

Ashley Gantt, Owen’s cousin, said, “Our family is experiencing a deep sense of loss right now.”

On Thursday evening, Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, issued a brief statement.

Zabaleta wrote, “Investigators have confirmed that from the onset of this investigation, there were multiple shooters from various locations.”

According to surveillance, some of the shooters came late Saturday night in a Nissan Pathfinder to the Country Club Shopping Center in the Palm Springs North neighborhood. The white stolen car was parked outside El Mula Banquet Hall, at 7630 NW 186 St., in Carol City, just north of Hialeah.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was seen waiting patiently for approximately an hour on surveillance tape. Another surveillance camera caught the motorist parked on a side road near the banquet facility early Sunday morning.

Detective Alexandra Turnes said, “Three males then armed with rifles and handguns exited the vehicle.”

Other surveillance footage shows the crowd outside the banquet hall before the armed trio quickly changed the atmosphere from calm to panic. Courtney Paul Wilson, 24, better known as rapper ABMG Spitta from Carol City, was hosting an album release party, and the crowd was eager to get inside.

The trio ran back to the Pathfinder, as shown on video. It was parked on a side road leading to the shopping center’s back entrance and Northwest 186th Street.

Amid all the commotion, some people drove the injured to nearby hospitals. Authorities say 18 people were injured and remained hospitalized on Monday. The patients were treated in Broward County at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Aventura Hospital, Kendall Regional Hospital, and Memorial Regional Hospital.

On Monday, detectives discovered an abandoned Nissan Pathfinder about nine miles from the homicide scene. It was discovered submerged in a canal near 154th Street and Northwest Second Avenue by divers. It was reported stolen on May 15.

On Wednesday, Owen’s aunt, Schekena Burton, begged the public to locate the ones responsible for the shooting.

Burton said, “No snitching leads to no conviction, so we need you all to open up your mouth and say something.”
