Three Charged In Shooting Death Of Security Guard Who Was Enforcing Executive Order To Wear Masks In Public

Flint, Michigan authorities have charged a family of three for the shooting death of a security officer working his shift at a Family Dollar.

Sharmel Teague, her husband Larry Teague, 44, and son, Ramonyea Bishop, 23, have been charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the fatal shooting of 43-year-old Calvin “Duper” James Munerlyn.

” From all indications, Mr. Munerlyn was simply doing his job in upholding the Governor’s Executive Order related to the COVID-19 pandemic for the safety of store employees and customers,” Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said of the fatal shooting. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order requires all employees and customers to wear face masks while inside the store.

The incident occurred on Friday after an argument ensued between the guard and 45-year-old Sharmel. Sharmel’s daughter was denied entry into the store because she did not have a face mask. The daughter then left the store, but Sharmel” began yelling at Munerlyn, who then told her to leave the store and instructed a cashier not to serve her,” prosecutors said.

After the argument, Sharmel left the scene but returned with her husband and son. As the incident escalated, Larry confronted the guard for disrespecting his wife, and that’s when Bishop pulled the gun and shot Munerlyn in the head.

Munerlyn was taken to a Flint hospital where he later died, said Michigan State Police Lt. David Kaiser.

All three were charged with premeditated murder and other gun charges.

On Monday, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton opened up about the senseless incident, saying, “It is important that the governor’s order is respected and adhered to, and for someone to lose their life over it is beyond comprehension.”

There are 43,950 reported confirmed cases of COVID-19, with just over 4,100 COVID related deaths in the state. However, Michigan has been dealing with gun-toting protestors demanding the state be open, so they’re able to go back to work and get haircuts again.

Leyton called the actions of the Michigan protesters “hostile” and said staying home, wearing a mask when in public, and staying a reasonable distance away from those around us shouldn’t be a political argument. “They don’t necessitate acts of defiance, and we simply cannot devolve into us versus them mentality,” Leyton told reporters on Monday.
