Although there have been many occasions in which the stars of ‘Girls Trip’ have individually expressed interest and hopes for a sequel, Tiffany Haddish didn’t quite see things the same and damn near shut down all hopes of a part 2. Last week, Haddish spoke at the Natural Resources Defense Council’s Night of Comedy and told an audience member she doubts the sequel will happen.
Haddish said, “I wish there was, I hope there is. I have been petitioning for it. I’ve even written a script for it. Me and the girls punched it up and made it good. They don’t want it. We understood how much money could be made, and they don’t want to pay for it. So I doubt it.”
A spokesperson for Haddish said the comedian’s comments were all a joke, despite the audience’s perception. The rep said, “She was totally joking. While she would love to make that movie one day, she has not written or participated in writing any script, so there was nothing for the studio to pass on. I can’t stress enough that she was kidding.”
Sources close to the film’s studio Universal told Page Six, “There was no script submitted for a ‘Girls Trip’ sequel, and no film is currently in development.” Queen Latifah recently spoke with People Magazine and said, “We are all in for ‘Girls Trip 2.’ We’re just waiting for a script to be honest. Tiffany called me like two weeks ago like, ‘I know me, and you and Jada [Pinkett Smith] and Regina get in the room, we can write this script.’ ”
