Todd & Julie Chrisley Check In To Prison To Serve Out Their Sentences

Tuesday, January 17th, wasn’t a good day for married couple Todd and Julie Chrisley. The two reported to different prisons to carry out their sentences for fraud and tax evasion.

Todd, 54, checked in to the Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola to serve his 12-year prison sentence. At the same time, Julie, 50, reported to inmate medical center, FMC Lexington, to carry out her seven-year sentence, PEOPLE said. Both have also been ordered to serve an additional 16 months of probation when released from prison.

The Chrisley Knows Best stars were sentenced last November after a jury found them guilty of a multimillion-dollar bank fraud and tax evasion scheme.

The couple is currently filing an appeal against their convictions and even tried to delay their sentencing start date. But their efforts were denied by a judge.

Their attorney, Alex Little of Burr & Forman LLP, previously told PEOPLE, in part, “Their trial was marred by serious and repeated errors, including the government lying to jurors about what taxes the couple paid. Based on these issues, we are optimistic about the road ahead.”

An appeal would give them a new trial, in which they would have to go through the whole legal process again.

ā€œIf there was an incorrect issue, it can be sent back down to be correct[ed]. Typically, the appellate panel will make a decision, make a ruling, and sometimes send it back down to enforce that ruling,ā€ their daughterā€™s attorney Musa Ghanayem told the outlet.

As for being separated, ā€œThere is that possibility of my husband and I being separated. But there’s a difference between my husband and I being separated for a period of time and having to say goodbye forever,” said Julie. “It almost makes me feel ashamed that I’m even worried,ā€ Julie said during an episode on her sonā€™s fiancĆ©eā€™s podcast, Chrisley Confessions.

She added, “I think it puts things into perspective for me because we all think our hard is the hardest thing.”
