What started as a headline-grabbing crossover dream is now looking shaky after Toosii publicly shut the door on Syracuse football.

Just two months after announcing he was stepping away from music to chase college football, the rapper made it clear that his plan is no longer tied to Syracuse. In a since-deleted TikTok video, Toosii called head coach Fran Brown a “bozo” and accused him of lying about what really led to the breakup.
The reaction came after Brown discussed Toosii’s situation in an interview, saying the program planned to give him a chance as a walk-on but added that he “wasn’t sure if that would happen” because Syracuse was bringing in “more” players to fill out the roster. That explanation did not sit well with Toosii, who felt the messaging did not match what was promised privately.
Toosii, whose legal name is Nau’Jour Grainger, first announced his commitment on December 1 after receiving a call from Brown. The decision surprised fans but made sense given his background. He played high school football at Rolesville in North Carolina before graduating in 2018, right as his music career began taking off.
After releasing multiple mixtapes and signing with South Coast Music Group in 2019, Toosii returned to school last year with football back on his mind. Syracuse and Sacramento State were the only confirmed offers.
After the Syracuse situation fell through, Toosii enrolled in Louisiana State University. It’s unclear if he will try out for their football team, though, for now, he is taking fans with him on his journey as a full-time student.
