Travis Scott’s Spokesperson Says Artist “Was Not Responsible” for Tragedy but “Wants to be Responsible for the Solution”

During a CBS Morning interview on Friday, a representative of Travis Scott said the rapper is not responsible for last week’s Astroworld Festival tragedy that left 9 dead after a crowd surge. However, “he wants to be responsible for the solution.”

“I mean this notion that Travis had the ability to stop the concert is ludicrous. They have a 59-page operations plan, and it clearly says the only two people that have the authority to stop the concert were the executive producer and the concert producer,” spokesperson Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who is also a former Baltimore mayor, said on “CBS Mornings.”

“He was not responsible for this, but he wants to be responsible for the solution. And I’m here to make sure that we can connect the dots and to make sure that this tragedy — that there’s a lesson out of this tragedy and something like this doesn’t happen again,” she added.

She also said Scott had no idea how bad things turned, “until well later, hours and hours later.” She said the rapper had stopped multiple times to understand what was happening but that he could not fully tell.

And when asked if he has reached out to the families of those that died, Rawlings-Blake answered, “Oh, absolutely.”

“He’s reached out to all of the families. I’ve reached out to the latest unfortunate victim to let them know that in their time, he’s there — he’s here to help if they want it,” she added.

The death toll of the Astroworld concert rose to nine Bharti Shahani, 22, succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.

Scott, LiveNation, and the organizer ScoreMore face multiple lawsuits as a result of the show.

The head of Houston’s fire department and others said Scott should have stopped his performance when the deadly crowd surge started.

“We all have a responsibility. Everybody at that event has a responsibility. Starting from the artist on down,” fire chief Samuel Peña said Tuesday.

“At one point, there was an ambulance that was trying to make its way through the crowd. And he’s got, the artist has, command of that crowd,” Peña added.
