Donald Trump has some interesting opinions about the way the Capitol rioters are being judged. Is anyone surprised?
He recently commented about the whole ordeal and seemingly showed some support, claiming they are “being persecuted so unfairly.”
There’s no need to remind the outrageous bigotry that took place when thousands of Trump supporters forced their way into the Capitol just because they had fairly lost a second term of Trump as “celebrity-in-chief.”
The incident left five dead, and still, Trump supports them just days ahead of “Justice for J6,” an upcoming rally in Washington that is set to commemorate the insurrection, the Independent reported.
“Our hearts and minds are with the people being persecuted so unfairly relating to the January 6th protest concerning the Rigged Presidential Election,” Trump wrote in a statement on Thursday. “In addition to everything else, it has proven conclusively that we are a two-tiered system of justice.”
Former Trump campaign operative Matt Braynard is expected to host a “Justice for J6” rally on Saturday with his organization “Look Ahead America.” He anticipates that the demonstration will be peaceful and says it is meant to bring attention to what he believes is overzealous prosecution of the Capitol demonstrators, who ranged from peaceful protesters to those violently attacking police.
“These people’s faces are up on billboards,” he told The New York Times on Wednesday. “They’re losing their jobs. They’re losing their homes. They’re spending all their savings on attorneys. They’re going bankrupt for doing what on any other day, for any other cause, would have gotten you a $50 fine and a slap on the wrist.”
Trump has adamantly denounced any involvement for causing the Capitol riot but has always seemed more sympathetic about those who swarmed and mobbed the Capitol. The same day he released a video to his supporters who ransacked the Capitol as Congress met to certify his election loss, telling them, “We love you, you’re very special.”
