Donald Trump isn’t backing down from his stance on immigration enforcement. During a 60 Minutes interview, he defended recent ICE raids that have sparked outrage nationwide; raids where a young mother was tackled, tear gas filled a Chicago neighborhood, and car windows were smashed.
When pressed by the reporter on whether ICE had gone too far, Trump said the opposite: “No, I think they haven’t gone far enough because we’ve been held back by the judges, by the liberal judges that were put in by Biden and by Obama.”
The reporter questioned whether Trump approved of tactics that included tear gas and aggressive arrests. Trump didn’t hesitate. “Yeah, because you have to get the people out,” he said, adding that many immigrants are “murderers” or “criminals” sent out of their home countries.
The exchange grew tense when the interviewer pointed out that many of those deported were not violent offenders but everyday workers—landscapers, farmhands, and nannies. Trump insisted his administration targets criminals but added, “You came into the country illegally, you’re going to go out. However, we’re going to work with you, and you’re going to come back into our country legally.”
