Op-Ed: So MAGA Believes the Epstein Files Except When It’s Trump?

Why Is Accountability Selective When It Comes to Trump?

I cannot let this go. I keep seeing people say everyone else connected to Jeffrey Epstein should be held accountable, but somehow when it comes to Donald Trump, suddenly there are excuses and alternative narratives.

Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges involving underage girls and died in jail awaiting trial. Since then, millions of pages of court filings and related documents have been made public. Those files have shed light on a wide network of powerful people connected to him. But there is no verified client list that criminally charges political figures with crimes. That matters. It should matter.

Trump had a documented social relationship with Epstein in the early 2000s and has denied any wrongdoing. He is not criminally charged in connection to Epstein’s crimes, and public claims that he secretly reported Epstein or acted as an informant and that Is a lie.

If we are serious about protecting children, that standard has to apply everywhere.

In the United Kingdom, Prince Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office after material connected to the Epstein files surfaced. British authorities detained him for questioning and later released him while the investigation continues. He has not been convicted, and the case remains ongoing. Still, an arrest happened in connection to information tied to Epstein.

That matters to me.

Because it shows that when questions reach powerful people, other countries are willing to pursue criminal investigations linked to what came out of these files.

So why does the conversation feel different here?

Why does the Trump Epstein files debate immediately turn into deflection the moment his name comes up?

I am told he was helping authorities. I am told he was cleared. I am told he has been fully exonerated. It is true that he has not been criminally charged in connection to Epstein. But not being charged is not the same thing as answering every question about past associations.

Those are two different standards.

I also watched Megyn Kelly comment on age related allegations in a way that felt dismissive. She has defended her remarks and said context matters in legal discussions. But to many women listening, it sounded like minimizing harm instead of confronting it directly. Frankly, she Is insufferable.

And that is where I struggle.

How can we claim to care about protecting girls, about holding powerful men accountable, but then change the rulebook when it touches someone we support politically?

Trump says he has been exonerated. There has been no criminal conviction tying him to Epstein’s crimes. Both of those things are factual. But the larger issue is consistency. If we demand transparency from one powerful man, we should demand it from all of them.

Right now, the Trump Epstein files debate feels less like a search for truth and more like a loyalty test.

If we want justice, it cannot stop at party lines.

That is the part I cannot ignore.
