Two Black Women Spearheaded The Return Of Baby Kason, Despite Police Not Taking Them Serious [Video]

It takes a village. Two Black women are responsible for the safe return of 5-month-old baby Kason Thomas.

The two Indianapolis women are being hailed as heroes after they led police to the suspect accused of taking the baby from Columbus, Ohio, on Dec. 18.

Nalah Jackson, a 24-year-old woman, was identified as the suspect. She was also accused of kidnapping Kasonā€™s twin brother, Kyair, who was found a day after the abduction at Dayton International Airport, the Daily News reported.

Shyann Delmar, 27, came in contact with Jackson at a gas station in Indianapolis on Tuesday. But at the time, she said she didn’t know it was the missing baby; she told the Indy Star. Delmar said she bought toys from the suspect and then gave her a ride to a Family Dollar.

Delmar recorded Jackson acting erratically during the ride and sent the video to her cousin, Mecka Curry. They then realized she looked like a kidnapping suspect reported on the news.

ā€œI wanted just to verify it before I got her locked up,ā€ Delmar told the Star.

Jackson agreed to meet Delmar and Curry again on Thursday. The two women had planned to take Jackson to a store and call the police. But when they contacted the police, the police didn’t believe they were with the kidnapping suspect, according to the Star.Ā

Eventually, they managed to convince the officers, with the help of Jackson’s mugshot, that she was, in fact, the suspect. The woman was then arrested, but that wasn’t the end of the mission for the heroic women. According to the publication, they then hatched a plan to find the missing boy. They traveled around town, searching for the Honda that Jackson was accused of stealing, using a bus schedule left behind to lead the way. Just before they gave up on their search, they spotted the suspectā€™s car in a Papa Johnā€™s parking lot. 5-month old Kason was inside.Ā

The woman alerted an officer inside a different pizza place nearby. ā€œAt that point, we didnā€™t believe we really did this,ā€ Curry told the Star. ā€œWe really did the unthinkable.ā€
