Michigan Police Have Arrested Two People In The Murder Of Woman Found Bound With Christmas Lights

After more than three years, Michigan police have arrested two people connected to the heinous murder of Egypt Covington in Van Buren Township. Michigan state police announced on Thursday.

The 27-year-old was last seen alive talking with a friend at a yoga class on June 22nd, 2017, before heading home. The following day, when the musician and microbrewery manager did not respond to phone calls, her boyfriend Curtis Meadows went to her home to check on her. Sadly, he discovered her bound with Christmas lights in the living room. She had been shot once in the head.

The police department confirmed the arrest on Twitter, though they did not provide much detail surrounding the arrests.

“This continues to be an ongoing investigation. No other information will be released at this time,” the tweet read.

Covington’s older brother, D’Wayne Turner, has been working diligently to get justice for his sister in the years following her murder. His frustration with the Van Buren Township police’s lack of progress led him to urge state police to take over the investigation.

“Mixed emotions all over the place,” Covington’s brother Dwayne Turner told Fox 2 Detroit. “Happy. Sad. A little bit of anger.”

Turner said that his family is going to celebrate the life of his sister and the recent development.

“We’re definitely going to have a celebration. We’re pretty limited on information. But the state detectives gave us a call that two people were arrested.”

Covington’s father, Chuck Covington, said that the news of the arrests also brought about mixed emotions.

“It’s something we never would have wanted to go through in the first place,” the 71-year-old said Thursday. “But, at least there’s a beginning for closure for all of us.”

At the beginning of the investigation, authorities suspected Covington’s ex-boyfriend of the murder. However, Turner confirmed that he was not one of the two individuals arrested.
