Uber Drops Out Of Donald Trump’s Business Advisory Council

Who says social media isn’t effective? In a shocking twist of events, Uber CEO, Travis Kalanick, has pulled out of Donald Trump’s business advisory council. This news comes after social media users threatened to boycott the ride share app over their relationship with the unpopular president.

Kalanick does not solely credit his decision to social media’s boycott. He also says he made the choice based on Trump’s immigration ban.

“Earlier today I spoke briefly with the president about the immigration executive order and its issues for our community,” Kalanick said in a statement. “I also let him know that I would not be able to participate on his economic council. Joining the group was not meant to be an endorsement of the president or his agenda but unfortunately it has been misinterpreted to be exactly that.”

“There are many ways we will continue to advocate for just change on immigration but staying on the council was going to get in the way of that,” Kalanick continued. “The executive order is hurting many people in communities all across America. Families are being separated, people are stranded overseas and there’s a growing fear the U.S. is no longer a place that welcomes immigrants.”

Just a day after social media caught wind of Uber’s ties to Donald Trump, following their ill-advised decision to break cab drivers’ protests at JFK airport, many jumped off the Uber bandwagon and downloaded LYFT instead. If you are one of the many who downloaded LYFT, make sure you use code: BALLERALERT to claim your $50 in free ride credits.
