UPS confirmed there were three crew members on board at the time of the crash. “At this time, we have not confirmed any injuries/casualties,” the company shared in a statement. However, several outlets have reported that there were people deceased on the ground.

The aircraft, identified as a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F, was headed for Honolulu. The cause of the crash remains unknown. Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched a joint investigation to determine what went wrong.

The Louisville Metro Police Department issued a shelter-in-place order for neighborhoods near the crash site.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear acknowledged the situation on social media, calling it “serious” and confirming he was en route to Louisville to be briefed.
