Trump Venezuela bombing developments sent shockwaves through the region after U.S. military strikes reportedly hit Caracas and surrounding areas, followed by claims that President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured during the operation.
In a nationally broadcast address early January 3, Vladimir Padrino López, the country’s defense minister, went directly to the people with a claim that has now put the region on edge. According to Padrino López, Venezuela was the target of what he described as a criminal military aggression carried out by the United States.
Speaking on behalf of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, he said the alleged attacks happened before dawn and struck Caracas along with the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira. He claimed missiles and rockets were launched from combat helicopters and hit areas that include civilian neighborhoods. At the time of the address, he said authorities were still gathering information about the number of people killed and injured.

Padrino López framed the situation as a direct violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and international law. He accused the United States of breaking the United Nations Charter and destabilizing the region through what he called a cowardly and ruinous act. He rejected any suggestion that the attacks were linked to anti drug operations, saying the real objective was control over Venezuela’s strategic resources and forcing political change.
Throughout the speech, the defense minister leaned heavily into history and national identity. He invoked the legacy of Simón Bolívar and described dignity as something that cannot be negotiated. According to Padrino López, Venezuela rejects the presence of foreign troops and views the situation as an invasion that has brought death, pain, and destruction.
While the message was intense, he repeatedly warned against panic. He urged citizens to remain calm and united, saying chaos and disorder serve an invader more than a defending nation. He described desperation as an enemy ally and discipline as the country’s shield, calling on Venezuelans to stay focused and organized.
The address also laid out immediate action. Padrino López announced full support for a decree declaring a state of external emergency across the entire country. He said the move was grounded in Venezuela’s constitution and national security laws. Under the direction of Nicolás Maduro, identified as commander in chief, the armed forces would move into full operational readiness.
That readiness, he said, includes nationwide deployment across land, air, sea, river, and missile defense systems. He emphasized what he called a perfect fusion between the military, police, and civilian population, describing the goal as forming a single block capable of confronting foreign threats.
Padrino López closed the address with defiance and resolve. He said honor, duty, and history demand resistance and described the spirit of a free homeland echoing across the country. His final message was clear. Venezuela believes it has been attacked, but it does not believe it will be broken.
As global attention intensifies, the claims made in this speech have set the tone for how Venezuela wants the world to understand what is unfolding. The situation remains fluid, but the message from the country’s top military official could not have been louder.

I am shocked and appalled our country has allowed Trump to get us into this mess. I am embarrassed and this is the beginning of a war we won’t win. Not all of the citizens of the USA are in alignment with Trump.
Never have I felt afraid to lay down and sleep. Trump has put our country at risk. For what cheaper gas prices. I do not accept you as the president Trump you are a lieing, steeling murdering disgrace to this country and everything it has ever stood for for me.
