19-year-old Warren King says he was shopping with friends and family at a Walgreens on Chicago’s East Side when federal agents suddenly burst inside chasing someone else. According to ABC7 Chicago, King says moments later, he was the one tackled and pinned to the ground. He screamed out, “I’m a U.S. citizen!” but says the agents didn’t listen.

King told ABC7, “He was just saying, ‘Why are you running?’ But I’m telling him, ‘I’m a U.S. citizen. I’m here. I’m legal. I’m born here.’ They didn’t try to hear none of that.”
He was held for several hours before being released with no charges. Reflecting on the encounter, King said the agents eventually realized their mistake but offered no apology. “They just accepted, like, their defeat. I just graduated high school. So, they can come for literally anybody. And that’s not right.”
The incident comes as Chicago becomes a major focus of federal enforcement operations, with Homeland Security officials ramping up immigration raids across the city. The government claims these actions target undocumented individuals with criminal records, but stories like King’s are raising concerns that innocent citizens are being swept up and profiled.
In recent weeks, a Chicago TV producer was also detained by federal agents and later released without explanation. A Cook County judge has since ordered ICE agents to wear body cameras while conducting operations in the city after multiple complaints of excessive force.
King’s story is resonating across social media as many point out that even citizenship isn’t enough to protect certain people from being targeted. What was supposed to be a quick stop at Walgreens turned into a nightmare that no American should have to experience.
