“We’ll See Him in Court,” Odell Beckham Jr. Argues Extortion Motive in $15 Million Assault Lawsuit

A former friend of NFL star #OdellBeckhamJr presented a $15 million lawsuit against the athlete for an alleged assault that resulted in severe costly injuries. Beckham says the man is exaggerating said injuries in order to extort money and attention.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the New York Giants wideout claims Ishmael Temple originally came to him with the “extortionate demand for $999,999 as compensation for less than $19,000 of supposed dental injuries.”

Temple’s injuries came from an altercation where he claimed to have been jumped by Beckham’s security team at Beckham’s house party at the start of the new year. He claimed the assault caused his two front teeth to be chipped and his lip busted, along with other bodily injuries.

Temple’s lawsuit is now demanding $15 million in damages and he claims to have spent over $18k on his teeth repairs alone.

Beckham Jr. vigorously denies the allegations, in addition to the statement released by his attorney, Daniel Davillier:

“Ishmael Temple has expressly acknowledged in his own lawsuit that Odell Beckham, Jr. never once touched him; and yet, Mr. Beckham is being sued for an alleged altercation that definitively did not involve him at all.”

The All-American wide receiver believes he is being targeted for his money. The “lawsuit reflects little more than an effort to extort a highly visible athlete by pursuing a windfall settlement of trumped up claims,” Beckham responded.

In the documents, Beckham points out how Temple detailed a supposed near-death experience and alleged that the injuries he suffered during the altercation left him “in a semi-conscious and visibly bloodied state.”

Yet, the medical records are not consistent with the story. The records obtained by Beckham’s attorney clearly indicate that Temple’s emergency room visit occurred January 17, 2018, three days after the alleged incident that supposedly left him beaten and on the verge of life.

Furthermore, Temple didn’t even go to the police to report the alleged assault until quite some time later. Beckham wants the entire case dismissed and the judge to award him $29k in attorney fees.

Davillier added, “This guy claims somebody assaulted him to near death, but there’s no police report, no hospital record, no evidence of an actual injury, and he asserts that Odell is responsible. This is clearly a frivolous lawsuit. We’ll see him in court.”
