Willie Reed Suspended Six Games Without Pay For Domestic Violence Incident With Wife

Six months after a domestic violence incident involving his wife, Detroit Pistons center Willie Reed has been hit with a six-game suspension without pay.

According to Bleacher Report, the incident occurred back in August when Reed’s wife, Jasmine, told officials that he got physical with her during an argument. In the police report, she said Reed “dragged her across the apartment while wrestling for a purse and later pulled her hair and grabbed her by the wrist” amid the melee.

Days after the arrest though, Jasmine released a statement via her attorney claiming the incident was blown out of proportion. She said she never even called the police in the incident, so she had hoped prosecutors would respect her wishes and drop the charges.

However, instead, prosecutors allowed Reed to enter a diversion program in exchange for the dismissal of his misdemeanor domestic battery charge. He also agreed to a $500 donation to a domestic-violence charity, in addition to a public statement about the severity of domestic violence.

Now though, just six months later, Reed, who was recently acquired by the Pistons in the Blake Griffin blockbuster trade, will be suspended for six games in the wake of the incident.
