Feds Say Woman Dismembered and Disposed of Husband’s Dead Body to Collect His Social Security Benefits

A woman dismembered her dead husband’s body to falsely collect $121,000 of his Social Security benefits.

Federal prosecutors allege that 69-year-old Nancy Shedleski disposed of her late husband’s remains in 2015 and didn’t report his death for more than four years. Instead, she collected his benefits and used the money for “her own personal living expenses,” which included a move to Vegas in 2017.

Authorities caught on to the scheme after receiving an anonymous tip in 2019 that Shedleski’s husband had disappeared. Soon after, an investigation was launched.

The woman initially claimed her husband was traveling but later admitted he died in the basement of their home in 2015 and she didn’t tell anyone. Instead, she dismembered him and threw his body parts in the trash, the federal complaint detailed.

“Shedleski confirmed there was no ambulance, no hospitalization, no funeral, no burial, and no cremation,” the complaint read.
