Woman Rescued After Leaving Notes in Public Restrooms That She Was Being Held Against Her Will; Suspect Arrested

A Pennsylvania woman left notes on scrap paper, hoping someday she would be rescued.

An unidentified woman left her first note in a Walmart in Carnegie, which said she was sexually and physically assaulted by a man—whom she warned had a knife—that was holding her against her will. She urged the reader of the note to call 911 and provided an address.

“If I don’t make it, tell my family I love them,” the woman wrote in one of her notes. She had been held captive since May.

When authorities first responded to the address she provided, no one came to the door. When they tried the phone number to reach her, a man answered and said she was on a trip to New York.

But then another note was discovered on Saturday in the women’s bathroom at the Fallingwater Museum in Mill Run, NBC News reported.

“The note states that she has been held since May 1, 2021, at Spreading Oak Drive and that they were not on vacation,” according to the complaint. “It states that she heard the police knocking at the residence, that the abuse hasn’t stopped, and please don’t give up.”

This note prompted authorities to the home with a SWAT team. The woman was rescued, and the man was taken into custody.

Corey Brewer
, 38, of Pittsburgh, has been charged with multiple violations, which include sexual assault, strangulation, and unlawful restraint, court records state.

Brewer apparently threatened to kill the woman and her family if she left, the criminal complaint states. Brewer and the victim were previously in a relationship, and the victim had already had a protection-from-abuse order against him.

Brewer will appear in court on July 22 for his preliminary hearing.
