Would You Put Your Dreams On Hold For Your Kids?

Being a ballerific woman in today’s society isn’t an easy task. At any given moment we are asked to be who we are and then some, and when that isn’t enough we’re asked to give 10x more. In a relationship we’re asked to be a support system, a home maker and even a mother, but what do you do when that wasn’t all that you wanted for yourself?

I happen to know a lot of women that I grew up with that are now mothers, myself included. Many of them have chosen to live the motherly lifestyle. They have put aside any and every dream they had to get married and provide a household for their kids. Their dreams now consist of PTA meetings, preparing dinner and helping with homework. They’re content with this lifestyle, as they should be because it’s a loving and fulfilling one. At one point however, before the children, this mother had a dream or a vision for herself. What happens to that? Whether it be to own her own business, become an actress or pick up a new hobby, do all dreams have to end because you’ve had a child?

I strongly believe that if there is something you want to do in life, there should be nothing that keeps you from doing it. I’m not huge on excuses because there is a way to do almost anything. With that said, I believe that if you really had a dream you should go after it. The worst feeling in the world is not knowing. Chasing a dream doesn’t mean that you have to stop taking care of your children. The thing about having goals is  being able to plan accordingly and juggle being a mom and business woman (for example). If men can do it, why can’t we?

This isn’t to bash women who have chosen being a mother over everything else. In reality that’s how it should be and as long as you don’t live with regret then you are living the life everyone else would like to have. If you are living in regret however, it’s probably time to take life into your own hands and get out there and get it for yourself. Your children never asked you to give up, you would serve as a huge inspiration to them. Being a mother doesn’t mean that that’s all that you can be.
