YouTube Acquires Global Rights to Eminem-Produced Hip Hop Movie “Bodied”

YouTube has gained the global rights to Eminem’s new satirical hip-hop film “Bodied.”

 

The movie was directed and written by music video director Joseph Kahn and produced by rap icon Eminem, Em’s manager, Def Jam Records CEO Paul Rosenberg, Adi Shankar and Jil Hardin.

The film follows the journey of grad student, Adam Merkin, who becomes an underground battle rapper in Oakland. But Merkin’s success also brings him hatred from other Oakland rappers.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The cast of “Bodied” includes Calum Worthy, Jackie Long, Shoniqua Shondai, Walter Perez, and Rory Uphold. The movie also will feature several well-known battle rappers such as Dizaster, Dumbfoundead, and Hollow Da Don. Radio personality Charlamagne Tha God will also make an appearance. Toronto battle rappers, Toronto battle rapper Alex Larsen (aka Kid Twist) will be co-writers.

Back in September, “Bodied” had its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film took home the Grolsch People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award. In addition, the photo won audience awards at AFI Fest and Fantastic Fest.

YouTube will give viewers a preview of the film at the Sundance Film Festival, which will take place at the Holiday theatre on Sunday, Jan. 21. The film will be available in theaters following this year as well as be played on YouTube Red.
