An ambulance was stolen outside of Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta on Tuesday morning after stopping to drop off a patient. 

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the ambulance was later recovered. However, police are still looking for the suspect that stole the vehicle. 

Police said that investigators placed a lookout notice on the stolen vehicle and recovered it in East Point. It was later towed to the Atlanta police Public Safety Annex for processing.

The ambulance was stolen around 7:45 a.m. when the driver left it unattended to tend to a patient. The EMT left the engine running while taking a patient inside. When he returned, the vehicle was gone. 

Savion Harris, a Crestview High School student, was leaving his job at a local Thai restaurant when the mother of the family-owned business ran downstairs with her son Max, screaming for help because the baby was not breathing and had turned blue according to WEAR.

Harris acted swiftly, grabbing the baby and performing CPR.

“While I was talking to the responder on the other end of the phone, I got the baby from the dad and put him on the table. The baby was turning blue, and I decided to do CPR,” Harris told the Daily News. “I did two good compressions, and the baby started crying, so I knew he was getting oxygen to his lungs. The color started returning to his face, and at that point, the ambulance arrived.”

“It was a very short, but like, intense couple of minutes. Just two or three minutes at the most, but it was extremely intense,”  Harris told WEAR.

Harris received his CPR certification as part of Crestview High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program. The program is part of a partnership with Florida State University’s SSTRIDE (Science Students Together Reaching Instructional Diversity & Excellence) program.
