Texas Congressional Candidate Says She Doesn’t Want Chinese Immigrants To Come To The U.S. ‘At All’: ‘I Can Say That Because I’m Korean’

A Texas congressional candidate is catching heat after saying she does not want Chinese immigrants in the United States.

According to Yahoo! News, a former employee of Donald Trump‘s administration and Texas congressional candidate Sery Kim faces backlash after she made racist remarks about the Chinese community coming into the U.S. The outlet reports Kim said she doesn’t want them coming to the U.S. “at all.” She claims they stole intellectual property and are the reason for the spread of the Coronavirus.

Kim’s words were said last week during a forum for candidates of Texas’ 6th Congressional District. “I don’t want them here at all,” she said. “They steal our intellectual property, they give us Coronavirus, they don’t hold themselves accountable.”

Kim said she feels comfortable making the racist statement because she’s of Asian descent. “And quite frankly, I can say that because I’m Korean.”

Kim used to work under Trump’s Small Business Administration. Before her words, she was endorsed by two Korean-American Republican Congresswomen who have since revoked their support of Kim. They called her statement “hurtful, untrue…[and] unacceptable.”

“As the first Korean American Republican women to serve in Congress, we want to empower and lift up fellow members of the (Asian American and Pacific Islander) community who want to serve their communities,” California Reps. Young Kim and Michelle Steel said in a statement. “We talked with Sery Kim yesterday about her hurtful and untrue comments about Chinese immigrants and made clear that her comments were unacceptable.”

On Friday, the Dallas Fort Worth Asian-American Citizens Council also spoke out against Kim’s remarks. “Racist and ethnic slurs, regardless of the source, have no place in today’s society,” the statement read. “Ms. Kim being of Korean descent does not give her license to use harmful language against Chinese or any other ethnic group.” The president of the group, Sammy Yang, said Kim’s comments “fuel the growing anti-Asian violence and further endanger Asian-Americans in our community. Her behavior is unacceptable and inexcusable.”

Michael Jordan Awarded Over $46,000 In Lawsuit Against Chinese Sportswear Company

Qiaodan, a sportswear and shoe manufacturer, has to pay Michael Jordan over $46,000 for using the Jordan name, emotional damage, and legal damage.

Qiaodan, which means Jordan in Chinese, has over 200 trademarks filed, all related to Jordan. Many of them were filed more than five years ago, making it difficult because trademarks can only be disputed in China within a five-year timeline. So, the court is unable to order them to stop using the name completely.

According to CBS Sports, Jordan has filed 80 lawsuits against the company. The Jordan brand believes that the company “had the intention of causing or allowing public confusion” and that using the number 23 and his sons’ names was to mislead customers. Qiaodan argues that the Jordan name is a common western surname.

A Chinese billionaire who criticized Chinese President Xi Jinping’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic has been jailed for 18 years.

The court said Tuesday that retired real-estate tycoon Ren Zhiqiang was sentenced on corruption charges.

This comes after he disappeared in March after writing an essay criticizing Xi, in which he called him a power-hungry “clown” without addressing him by name.

“I saw not an emperor standing there exhibiting his ‘new clothes,’ but a clown who stripped off his clothes and insisted on continuing being an emperor,” Ren, 69, said.

“Without a media representing the interests of the people by publishing the actual facts, the people’s lives are being ravaged by both the virus and the major illness of the system,” he wrote.

On Tuesday, Ren was found guilty on multiple charges, including embezzling $16.3 million in public funds, accepting bribes, and abuse of power. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison and ordered to pay a $620,000 fine.

The court said he “voluntarily confessed to all of his crimes” and “was willing to accept the court’s verdict after all of his illegal gains were recovered,” according to CNN.

CNN also reports that his heavy sentence is meant to send a message to other Chinese elites who are thinking about publicly criticizing President Xi.

That’s Baller: Ancient Chinese Vase Purchased For $1 Could Be Worth $100,000

Who doesn’t love a bargain? If you’ve ever gone “thrifting,” then you’d know the rush you get when you come across a great find at a low price. What started off as an interesting buy, soon turned into a find of a lifetime.

An unnamed buyer in Hertfordshire, England spent 1 British pound, which is around $1.21 in US currency, on a vase he found in a store. After posting the item for sale on eBay, he started to get a lot of inquiries and took it to an auctioneer for review. Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers confirmed that the vase was in fact 300 years old and once belonged to the sixth emperor of the Qing dynasty, who reigned from 1736-1796.

The vase sits 8 inches high, and the experts at Sworders Auctioneers suggest that the combination of high-quality enamel used and special markings found, including the family rose, iron-red seal and inscriptions could mean this vase once resided inside the emperor’s palace. According to reports, the inscription reads “Weijing weiyi,” which means to “be precise, be undivided.”

The item is valued between $60,000-$100,000 and goes to auction on November 8th.

#BoycottMulan: ‘Mulan’ Star’s Support For Hong Kong Police Sparks Boycott

 – Blogged by @DanielleBTV

Whew! Another day, another boycott, and this time, Disney is caught right in the middle of it. The hashtag #BoycottMulan is trending worldwide after the “Mulan” star, Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei, voiced her support for the police crackdown in #HongKong this week.

Protesters in Hong Kong are urging fans to discontinue their support of the upcoming live-action #Mulan remake, claiming that the film’s star Liu is anti-democracy and pro-police.

Liu went on a Chinese social media platform called ‘Weibo,’ where she has almost 66 million followers, and shared a photo from ‘The People’s Daily,’ which is a Chinese newspaper allegedly tied to the country’s Communist party. It read, “I support Hong Kong’s police; you can beat me up now” — in reference to a viral quote by a Chinese national.

She then added, “What a shame for Hong Kong. #IAlsoSupportTheHongKongPolice” with a heart and strong-arm emoji.

Policing has become a serious issue in Hong Kong’s political crisis, with officers facing criticism for using excessive force against large groups of peaceful protestors, using tear gas on local residents and concerns that police ignored an organized mob attacking protesters earlier this month, according to Forbes. This comes after protesters began demanding greater personal autonomy in the country and a number of government reforms.

Twitter user @sdnorton tweeted, “Liu is a naturalized American citizen. It must be nice. Meanwhile, she pisses on people fighting for democracy. Retweet, please. HK doesn’t get enough support.”

On the flip side, she also received plenty of support on Weibo and some fans of Liu’s refuse to believe she is anti-democratic. Some are also battling it out on social media, arguing that she may be under pressure of the powerful Chinese government because of her influential celebrity platform.

Despite the split support, the hashtag #BoycottMulan is trending on global social media, although the Disney film isn’t set to hit theaters until March 2020.
