Eve Lands Starring Role In ABC’s Hip-Hop Drama Pilot “Queens” From Zahir McGhee

Eve is set to star in ABC’s new hour dramatic pilot called “Queens” from Zahir McGhee, Sabrina Wind, and ABC Signature.

According to Deadline, the show will be written by McGhee will center around four women who were a part of a fictional 90’s hip hop group called the “Nasty B*tches,” who are looking to reignite their swagger and their music careers in their 40’s.

Eve will play Brianna, who twenty years prior was known as “Professor Sex”— one-fourth of the iconic 90s hip-hop group that rapped about sex, money, and the glamorous life.

Now, 20 years later, Brianna is a proud wife and mother of five — who loves her square life- but knows it’s anything but glamorous.

When an opportunity for the Nasty B*tches to reunite comes her way, Brianna struggles to find the confidence and sex appeal that made her an icon two decades before.

Eve will record and perform songs as her character Briana, and Zahir McGhee and Sabrina Wind will produce the show.

Since marrying Maximillion Cooper, Eve has opened up about the harsh trolling she has received for her interracial marriage.

Eve told Metro.co.uk, “In the beginning, it was very hard because obviously, I come from Hip-Hop, there was no other person at that time, especially from that world dating outside the race, outside of Black guys.”

The rapper and her white British husband have been married since 2014. Before their relationship, neither of them had dated outside of their own race.

She adds, “When we first started posting about our relationship, we got the worst crazy messages that I can’t even believe someone could write or think or type these words.”

Since then, nearly all the trolling has stopped.

She stated, “Over the years, I have to say now it’s mostly 99.9 percent positive because of us being so confident in loving each other and who we are that people have come around, or those ignorant people have just left my page which hopefully has happened.”

However, she says they have challenging moments in their relationship, like when she told her other half she was leaving.

“My husband and I are very honest with each other to a fault,” she said. “I’ve never been in a relationship like this, where it’s been very honest and respectful.”

Eve says race is still a factor in their relationship, and it’s not something that could easily be ignored. Especially during a time of turmoil in the United States and the United Kingdom, where they live, following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the Black Lives Matter protests.

In the June 2 episode of The Talk, Eve discussed how race factors into their relationship.

“I am in an interracial relationship. I am having some of the most difficult and uncomfortable conversations I think I’ve ever had, and vice versa with my husband,” Eve shared. “But, at the same time, it’s a beautiful thing, because … I don’t know his life through his eyes. He doesn’t know my life through my eyes.”

Rapper Eve Announces That She Is Leaving “The Talk”

Rapper Eve has announced that she is leaving “The Talk” after just four seasons. The “Let Me Blow Your Mind” rapper announced her departure on Monday’s episode of the CBS daytime talk show.

“It’s been a crazy year, obviously for all of us. And I’m so grateful that I’m able to stay here in London and do the show, but I can’t see for me, the foreseeable future of traveling back at the moment, and have decided that at the end of December, this will probably be my last time on the show, in this capacity as a host” she said before adding “I want to concentrate on expanding our family, being with my family.”

The 41-year-old’s announcement comes as the U.K. gears up for a second lockdown as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Eve currently resides in London with her husband millionaire entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper,

The Philly MC also thanked her co-hosts Sheryl Underwood, Sharon Osbourne and Carrie Ann Inaba for their continued support.

“I have had the most beautiful experience. I’ve grown as a woman, as a person. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again, I never thought that being on a talk show would be this much of an opening of my spirit, soul, personality, everything. Sitting on stage with all you women has been the best thing ever.”

Eve Talks Her Ruff Ryder Days In New Interview, Says Group Was Protective And Supportive: “They Wanted Me To Not Just Be The Cute, Sexy Girl, They Wanted Me To Be Amazing Lyrically…I Was Very, Very Lucky”

Eve is sharing her adventures from her days as a Ruff Ryder in a new five-part BET documentary series, Ruff Ryders Chronicles

The series kicked off last week on BET, and tells the story of Ruff Ryders Entertainment, at its prime back in the late ’90s and 2000s. The group was founded by siblings Joaquin “Waah” Dean, Darin “Dee” Dean, and Chivon Dean and was primarily centered around its first artists DMX and TheLox. Other acts included Drag-On, Jin, producer Swizz Beatz, and Eve, who joined as the first woman on the label.

“I was the most protected female on the planet at that time. I was Baby Sis, but not like, coddled. Baby Sis in a way that you were gonna protect, she hustles with us,” said Eve during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Prior to coming on to the Ruff Ryders train, Eve spent a short time with Dr. Dre. and Aftermath. However, she said her first introduction to the rap world was when she was stripping and met fellow rapper, Mase.

“It was a slow night, and this guy comes walking in, and one of the girls who I hung out with was like, ‘Yo, that’s that new kid, he just got signed to Puff.’ I go over there, and I’m kinda just like, ‘Yeah, what’s up, you want a dance?’… He just laughed, actually, and he was like, ‘What do you wanna do with your life?’ And I was like, ‘You don’t know me, don’t be asking about me!’ Long story short, he literally was like, ‘You’re not supposed to be here. What is it that you wanna do?’ I told him I wanna be a rapper, and he was like, ‘Get dressed, let’s go ride around the city and listen to some beats.'”

She continued: “We literally just rolled around the city until the sun came up. He listened to me rap. I never saw him again from that night until I got signed to Ruff Ryders… and he would come up to the studio almost every day while I was doing my first album, and just was such a supportive person. He opened up a church in Atlanta years after, and I was always telling people he was supposed to do that, he knows some things, and that he sent me a message that I needed to hear at that time. It was incredible.”

Eve’s debut album “Let There Be Eve…Ruff Ryders’ First Lady” came out in September 1999. The rapper said that the album was somewhat of a “diary” that detailed major events of her life. The project was completely written by her, and was later certified double platinum. The album featured hits like “Gotta Man” and “Love Is Blind,” which she wrote when she was just 16.

Elsewhere in the interview, Eve spoke on the many times that she would want to go out, but the group was concerned for her safety.

“Anytime I tried to go out, I was told to stay in the room,” she said. “But when I did go out, listen, it was nuts. It was nuts. It was on another level. I’ve never ever seen another club in that way, with people partying and people just having fun.” Eve went on to discuss how Grammy-winning hits “Let Me Blow Ya Mind,” a collaborative record with #GwenStefani, helped boost her even further. “She gave me an audience I didn’t have. And vice versa, I gave her an audience she didn’t have. I’ve always been a huge No Doubt fan, a huge Gwen fan, and we were the same label, and I was like, ‘Why not make this happen?'” She added that she knew their unique artistries would work well together. “As much as she was a girly girl like I was, she was a tomboy like I was. So I recognized that in her, I knew it was gonna work.”

The rapper also explained that Ruff Ryders wanted her to be a multifaceted artist. “They protected me,” she said of the group. “They wanted me to not just be the cute, sexy girl; they wanted me to be amazing lyrically… I was very, very lucky.”

Now, Eve is a wife and television show host. In fact, when it comes to returning to “The Talk,” she says the details are still being ironed out. For now, she is in London with her hubby and family. “We’re all in a situation now where we are figuring it out like we always do,” Eve said.” I’m excited, ’cause I don’t even know what’s happening yet. Because we have been on hiatus, we’ve kind of been checking in, but no one knows anything, so it’s gonna be huge. It always is — we do that very well.”

Eve Talks About Past Sisterhood Of Hip-Hop Music and How She Signed With Ruff Ryders

Ruff Ryders’ first lady, Eve, recently opened up in an interview with The Guardian about her come up as one of the few women in hip-hop making headway in rap and the isolation she felt during that time.

Eve candidly shared how camaraderie between female rappers was nonexistent back then and recalled how record companies would try to pit female rappers against each other. Despite that, she was able to navigate the music scene without getting caught up in the behind-the-scenes politics or burn any bridges.

“Before I’d met anybody, I always thought of it as this sisterhood. I thought we were all gonna be friends. It was not like that,”  she told the UK publication. “There definitely weren’t a lot of females out there, and the labels were basically trying to make you get naked. I was in a bubble and it never felt like a competition. I loved Missy [Elliott] and Kim but I never wanted to be them,” she continued.

She also gave a little backstory on the real reason of how she ended up with Ruff Ryders. She revealed how she was unexpectedly dropped from Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label eight months after signing the contract papers. Her release is what led her to linking up with Ruff Ryders. “But with Ruff Ryders, it was always: ‘We like who you are, we’re not going to try and change you.’”

With her first album in six years dropping soon, she said she is not sweating the small details in her larger picture. “I’m not as stressed about what people think any more – that’s a great feeling,” she said.

“Whether it’s me talking to my past self, or to future girls, it’s saying: ‘You don’t need to deal with the b*lls**t. Keep it moving!’ You have that a-ha moment where you go: ‘You know what? F**k this shit!’”

Are y’all ready for Eve’s comeback!?

In a perfect world, people of color would be presented the same opportunities as their white counterparts. Unfortunately, this world is far from perfect, however, there are people, more specifically women, who have dedicated their time, money and education to make a positive change. They’ve used their experiences and their encounters with injustices to fight and/or create more opportunities for their children and their children’s children, in an effort to make the world a better place. This is #BlackExcellence. These are #BallerificWomen

One of those special individuals is Eve, Grammy Award Winner, actress, and wife.

Philadelphia’s own, Eve has shown the world that she’s not just another pretty face in the crowd, but a driven, confident and fearless soul.
