Ryan Dorsey lovingly remembers the late Naya Rivera Sunday on her first Mother’s Day since her tragic death.

“We can’t say the word happy but we’ll say thank you for being a mother & giving me this sweet amazing boy,” he captioned a post of Rivera and son Josey.

Dorsey, 37, and Rivera were married from 2014 to 2018. The couple welcomed Josey in September of 2015.

Rivera’s body was found five days after she went missing on Lake Piru in California last July. She had been out boating with her son. Her death was ruled an accidental drowning.

In the court documents filed by Ryan’s attorney Amjad Khan on Tuesday, it is being claimed that Ventura County is responsible for Rivera’s drowning death back in July. Ryan believes the boat that Rivera and their son were traveling on in Lake Piru did not meet safety standards. The boat was “not equipped with a safely accessible ladder, adequate rope, an anchor, a radio or any security mechanisms to prevent swimmers from being separated from their boats, nor any flotation or life-saving devices.” The lawsuit states that Rivera’s life would have been saved on the boat had these essential components been on the boat. In addition, there were no signs nearby the lake that warned of its dangerous conditions. The suit highlighted this when pointing out that at least 26 other people, “from children to fit adults to elders,” have drowned in Lake Piru since the opening of its recreational facilities. Ryan believes that the person who rented Rivera the boat failed her by not warning her to wear the life vest. 

California boating law states that all boats 16 feet or more in length, with the exception of canoes and kayaks, must have one life jacket readily available for each person on board and at least one throwable device in every boat. 

Rivera was found dead in Lake Piru on July 13th after being reported missing along with her son on July 8th. Josey was able to climb back onto the boat. When authorities located the child, he told them that he and his mom had gone swimming in the water but that at some point, she’d gone underwater and failed to resurface. 

Ventura County has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.

Ryan Dorsey took to Instagram in an emotional video earlier this week to respond to rumors that he had moved in with his ex-wife’s little sister, Nickayla Rivera. He said, “It’s not always black and white.”

In the lengthy 12-minute video, he said, “I can’t believe this is real life and that I am about to even address any of this nonsense.”

”I usually don’t read comments on my own stuff because I just know how there can be 50 good things said and five negative ones and somehow, as humans, we get those five negative ones stuck in our heads, but it was brought to my attention that there’s a lot of people that have a lot to say and have opinions on a family’s tragic situation,” he continued.

In the video, Dorsey attempts to describe the pain he feels, knowing that his son will grow up without a mother. He then gives credit to his own mother for helping him get through this tough situation, remembering that Josey will never have Naya to do that with. He said he’s lost “a little over 20 pounds” since Naya’s tragic death, and claimed the controversial decision to move in with Nickayla was all on his son, as he wanted his ‘Titi’ to move in.

“To have a young woman who is his blood, his Titi, who’s willing to put her life on hold and sacrifice things, uproot her situation for the betterment of your child, so when you put your child to bed, you don’t have to be alone with your thoughts, and you don’t have to be sad every day and night wondering when does it get better. At least you have someone there with you to talk to or just sit in silence and be sad with. You don’t have to deal with it completely alone,” Dorsey said.

He also made it clear that a relationship is not on his mind right now. He said, “I wish I was worried about a relationship right now, not thinking about this and living with this every day.”

“I also hope if you ever have to deal with anything tragic, that you’ll have peace and never have people following you and taking pictures and creating a false narrative based on an angle of a photo of two people grieving, who have been living their lives out of suitcases and just trying to get settled into a new place while grabbing a couple of things at Target for a young boy’s birthday party that we’re trying to put together,” he added, referring to photos that surfaced of the two holding hands.

Nickayla Riveria recently took to social media to speak out about rumors that she is living with her late sister’s ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey.

On Monday, 25-year-old Nickayla wrote on her Instagram, “In the darkest time of my life, the only thing that is important is my friends & family. Showing up for my nephew, even though I can’t show up for myself,” in reference to Naya and Dorsey’s 5-year-old son, Josey.

“I’m not concerned with the way things look because no one can see each agonizing moment we all endure,” she says. “What matters most I’ve learned, is to show compassion, not to judge others, & never take a moment of life for granted. I hope you all can do the same.”

On September 6, the Daily Mail published photos of her helping Dorsey move belongs out of his Los Angeles home to a rented home just 30 minutes away. The newspaper also published photos of the two going for a walk on September 9, and shopping on September 13 and 19.

Nickayla has yet to confirm or deny that she and the Ryan Dorsey have moved in together.

Her sister Naya Rivera was married to Dorsey from 2014-2018. She died on July 8 after she had been boating with her son Josey at Lake Piru near Santa Clarita, California, where she accidentally drowned. Authorities discovered the body in the water on July 13 after searching for her for five days.

In the midst of this tragedy, her ex-husband Ryan Dorsey took to Instagram to pay tribute to his ex-wife, saying, “Life is all about good times and bad times but with Josey it makes the bad a little less so because a part of you will always be with us. He’ll never forget where he came from. We miss you. We will always love you.”

Nickayla then wrote to her Instagram, “I’ve never known a life without you in it & still can’t imagine it. My world is turned upside down. But through it all, everything we were, we are still. I’ll always look at you with the same eyes as I did when I was young. My shmaya, I’ll love you for eternity & miss you every second of my life.”

The Glee star’s son, Josey, said that before he disappeared into the water, the two counted “1, 2, 3” and jumped off the rented pontoon boat together at Lake Piru, according to the report, which was obtained by People.

After jumping into the lake, the 4-year-old, whom she shared with ex-husband Ryan Dorsey, said that she helped him back onto the boat and then disappeared into the lake.

“She helped him onto the boat and then he then heard [Naya] yell ‘help,’ and she put her arm in the air. She then disappeared into the water,” according to the details of the report.

The investigative report also revealed that Rivera, 33, had been prescribed Adderall for anxiety, was taking medication for a sinus infection, and that Rivera used a marijuana vape and smoked about “a pack of cigarettes per week” at the time of her death.

The report also revealed the star suffered from vertigo, of which she had been treated for at Cedars Sinai Hospital prior to her death, which got worse when she was in the water.

The report listed Rivera as being in good health and having “no known history of suicidal ideation or attempt,” and noted that she was a good swimmer.

The official cause of death is accidental drowning.

Rivera’s toxicology report was also released by the medical examiner, which reveals the actress had low-level amounts of amphetamine (Adderall, Dexedrine), diazepam, ethanol, and phentermine, which is an appetite suppressant, in her system, as well as caffeine, at the time of her death. According to the toxicology report, her blood alcohol concentration was 0.016.

Rivera went missing on July 8 while boating with her son. After the rental boat became overdue, employees of the rental company found the boat on the lake with Josey sleeping, alone.

Authorities searched the lake for five days, recovering Rivera’s body on July 13.

On Monday, Ventura County Sheriff’s office released a statement about the discovery, saying, “a body has been found at Lake Piru this morning. The recovery is in progress.”

The recovery comes five days after the actress went missing on the water. Rivera and her 4-year-old son went swimming on the lake prior to her disappearance. Her son, Josey Hollis Dorsey got back into the boat, but later told police that his mother did not.

Rivera’s rise to fame began at the tender age of four when she landed the role of Hillary Winston in “The Royal family.” In 2009, the actress secured the role of Santana Lopez on the hit series, “Glee,” and just two years later, she signed a deal with Columbia Records.

Rivera also lent her talent to a slew of movie roles, including “At the Devil’s Door” and Lifetime’s “Devious Maids.”

The actress is survived by her son, friends, and millions of fans. She was 33.

The search continues Saturday for Glee star Naya Rivera after the actress went missing during a boating trip with her son on Lake Piru on Wednesday.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office released footage on Friday to show just how poor the visibility is in the lake, just one to two feet, making the search very difficult. The footage was obtained by a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) used by the sheriff’s office, deployed 30 feet from the lake’s surface, reports People Magazine.

The sonar device “paints pictures of the lake bed floor, and when it sees an anomaly, an object that’s consistent with the shape and size of what we’re looking for, then we send divers to search that specific area,” Ventura County Sheriff Sergeant Kevin Donoghue told People.

Along with the ROV and sonar, authorities are using dogs and divers to aid in their search.

During a press conference on Friday, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Captain Eric Buschow told reporters that they “don’t know if she’s going to be found five minutes from now or five days from now.”

Buschow said authorities are focusing on the north and eastern sides of Lake Piru, based on the location of where Rivera’s boat was found, and the level of personnel present at the lake could vary in the coming days.

The search for Rivera, 33, turned to a recovery mission on Thursday, one day after her son was found alone on their rented boat. Her son told officials that he made it back onto the boat after swimming but that she did not.

Before the 33-year-old star’s disappearance, she rented a pontoon boat and went swimming with her son in the lake. When she did not return the boat within the three-hour rental period, the staff located it on the north side of the lake. Josey was found alone and asleep aboard.  

Ventura County Sheriff’s Office released additional details in a press release, which said Josey told investigators that his mother did not get back on the boat after she went swimming in the lake.

“Rivera’s son told investigators that he and his mother had been swimming in the lake, and he got back in the boat, but Rivera did not,” reads the press release that was released Thursday.

People spoke with Sergeant Kevin Donoghue of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and was told that based on their interview with Josey and the information he provided, the department is “confident she is still in the water.”

A search and rescue team was sent out on Wednesday, but on Thursday the operation shifted from a rescue mission to a recovery mission. It is presumed that Rivera drowned. 

“Investigators believe Rivera drowned in what appears to be a tragic accident,” the press release reads.

Rivera shares her son with ex-husband Ryan Dorsey, 36, who has since been spotted by the Daily Mail holding their son Josey. Authorities say the boy “is in good health.”

At this time, there is no evidence that Rivera’s body has made it to shore, which leads them to believe she has drowned. Emergency responders have searched the “shoreline for any clues whatsoever, any personal items, any footprints, anything that would indicate that she made it out of the water and because of the absence of those clues, that is why the focus of the search right now is in the water,” Donoghue said.

“The entire shoreline and surface of the lake were thoroughly searched. Divers also searched underwater in the area where the boat had last been seen. However, there was no sign of Rivera,” the press release states regarding Rivera’s Wednesday search. Officials also say a life jacket was found on the boat. 

“We don’t know if that just meant it was hers or if that was an extra life vest on the boat. But seemingly, if she was somehow incapacitated and she had a life jacket, we would find her floating. Clearly, she is not.” he added. 

Donoghue says Rivera may have suffered a medical episode, but they do not know and will not know until they find her. Police are still trying to figure out the timeline of when Rivera and her son separated.

“We don’t know if the boy had been sleeping there for an hour or five minutes. She really could have been anywhere on a large portion of the lake,” Donoghue shared.

During Thursday’s press conference, Donoghue stated that Rivera’s body could be “entangled in something underneath the water” if so, it may not ever come up. He also discussed the complications of searching in Lake Piru’s conditions, the visibility “is not very good, it’s terrible.” These conditions have made the recovery process difficult and very slow, but the search still continues.  

“Approximately 100 personnel are participating in the mission on Thursday, including resources from neighboring counties and the United States Coast Guard,” the release reads.

Looks like Naya Rivera dodged a major bullet in the domestic violence case filed against her.

According to TMZ, Rivera’s domestic battery charge, which stemmed from an altercation with her estranged husband, was dismissed on Friday after Ryan Dorsey refused to further pursue charges.

The incident occurred back in November while the couple was walking down the street. According to Dorsey, the two got into an argument over their child, which led to a physical altercation. Basically, Rivera put the paws on him. Dorsey called the cops and Rivera was arrested shortly after.

Just over a week after the incident, Rivera called it quits and filed for divorce from her husband.

In legal docs obtained by TMZ, Rivera is asking for joint custody of the couple’s 2-year-old but is also requesting that the judge deny spousal support for Dorsey. Rivera’s filing comes just one year after her previous filing that was later dismissed.

The actress is citing irreconcilable differences for ending her marriage of three years, but sources tell TMZ that her recent arrest was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Apparently, this isn’t the first time police got involved in their marriage, the three previous times police were called Rivera was reportedly the victim.
