”Outlaw: The Saga of Afeni Shakur” has gotten the greenlight from FX. The five-episode docuseries will detail the life of the activist and her son, Tupac Shakur.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Per the press release: “Outlaw is an intimate wide-angle portrait of the most inspiring and dangerous mother-son duo in American history, whose unified message of freedom, equality, persecution, and justice are more relevant today than ever.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The series will be directed by Allen Hughes, the Emmy nominated filmmaker who had the privilege of working with Tupac himself before his untimely death in 1996, according to Pitchfork. The premiere date will be announced in the coming months.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to Vulture, the show will highlight the mother and son duo’s history of activism, including Afeni’s foundation Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation and her affiliation with the Black Panther Party.
