‘Uncut Gems,’ the upcoming crime thriller starring Adam Sandler, has received a lot of buzz and has even generated talks of potentially becoming Oscar-Nominated this year at the 92nd annual Academy Awards.
During a recent interview with Pitchfork, directors of the film Josh and Benny Safdie revealed that it took some effort to get Sandler on board with the project.
During the recruitment stage, The Safdie brothers revealed that they sent Sandler Jay-Z’s ‘Marcy Me’ music video since they directed that visual along with Darius Khondji- who also helped with Uncut Gems- in hopes to show Sandler just what they were capable of doing.
Speaking with the publication, Josh revealed that the video so moved Sandler, that it helped convince him and make his decision final, to star in the films.
Sandler’s role in the upcoming film is different than his previous comedic roles and is likely partly the reason it took some extra convincing to get him to sign onto the film.
In the film, Sandler portrays a character named Howard Ratner. Ratner is a Jewish-American jeweler who, time and time again, destroys his life due to his gambling addiction.
‘Uncut Gems’ will be released to theaters on Christmas Day.
