Baller Alert’s Today in Hip-Hop: The Game Released Debut Album ‘The Documentary’ 13 Years Ago

13 years ago today, The Game released his debut album ‘The Documentary’ on Aftermath Entertainment, G-Unit Records, and Interscope Records.

⠀⠀⠀⠀
Featuring production from some of hip-hop’s biggest names such as Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Scott Storch and Timbaland, ‘The Documentary’ was a major success that catapulted The Game’s career to the next level.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a West Coast native, The Game introduced us to a new sound that combined the sounds of Compton legends that came before him. With the storytelling of N.W.A. and the club bangers of Dr.Dre, The Game quickly established himself as the new face of the West Coast.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Upon its release ‘The Documentary’ debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. Having sold 586,000 units in the first week, by March 2005 the album was certified double Platinum by the RIAA, with five million copies sold worldwide.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
To this day, the album remains one of The Game’s best-selling albums to date.
