Kendrick Lamar First Rapper To Win Pulitzer Prize For Music

#KendrickLamar makes history by being the first non-classical or jazz artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for music.

The Pulitzer Prize for music is usually awarded to classical acts or figures that aren’t as commercially recognized as Kendrick. Yet, the Compton bred rapper has broken the mold. After winning a Grammy for his album “DAMN”, it seems he was put on the Pulitzer boards radar. They say that Kendrick’s album is “a virtuosic song collection… (it captures) the modern African American life.”

Kendrick will receive a prize of $15,000 but that’s a small thing to a giant that will be taking home a Pulitzer prize! Kendrick’s style is unmatched and his collabs are always epic. Working with artists from #Rihanna, #Beyonce, Taylor Swift, and U2, K-dot is truly a lyrical king.

Congratulations to Kendrick Lamar for making hip-hop history, but better yet, for his show of black excellence!
