Let’s Talk: Is It Cool To Introduce Your Boo to Your Children As “Uncle?”

Dating can be difficult when trying to find someone that’s compatible with you, especially if you are just getting out of a relationship. The most difficult part about dating is ensuring that the person is going to be good to your kids.

One thing you don’t want to do is introduce your children to everyone you are pursuing. When the time is right, you will know it. You want to make sure that your children are safe, as well as respected by whomever you choose to bring home.

Back in the day, some women didn’t want their kids to know that they were dating, so they would tell their kids to call him their “uncle.” I never truly understood why this was necessary. I have to admit it’s actually borderline creepy.

I know that you want to keep your personal life to yourself and don’t want your kids to know what is going on, I get it. But, why bring your boo around your kids, if you aren’t going to be truthful about who they are? What happens if that relationship doesn’t work out? Are you going to introduce the next guy as your kid’s uncle?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You don’t want your kids to look back and think, “How many brothers does my mom really have?” Not only is it ridiculous, but you don’t want to confuse your children.

At the end of the day, watch who you bring around your kids. Only introduce them to those that you are serious about and see a future with.
