THE BRAND IS STRONG: Desus & Mero Talk Showtime Success, Taylor Swift Fans and More: “The Best Revenge Is Getting Your Paper, According to Queen Beyonce”

Just weeks after Showtime’s Desus & Mero announced their new summer schedule, which offers a double-dose of weekly double toppy talk, the comedic duo chopped it up with Baller Alert to discuss their newfound success with the premium network.

Despite initial criticisms from those, particularly Viceland execs, who felt the Bodega Boys brand wasn’t strong enough to withstand the transition to Showtime, the pair stayed focused and pushed their product, and ultimately, it paid off.

“We don’t say anything,” Desus said, of responding to doubters. “We just concentrate on making the best content we can and just having the ability to have two nights a week on Showtime is just like…we’re not even thinking about past stuff like that.”

“Fam, if you look at the guests we’re about to have,” Desus continued. “It’s just like, yo, that stuff is in the rearview mirror.”

“I mean at the end of the day, the best revenge is success,” Mero added, as Desus interjected with a very important Beyonce quote. “Actually, the best revenge is getting your paper, according to Queen Beyonce.”

“We’re doing big things, we’re up here in the stratosphere, we’re not even looking down, we’re just looking up,” Mero said.

Elsewhere in the interview, the duo also addressed their beef with Taylor Swift fans, who infiltrated their comments and dms with death threats and racial slurs over their joke about Swift’s long back. But, apparently, the beef has since subsided.

“You know what it is,” Desus said. “After a while they get bored. I think they just realized we’re comedians, we do jokes and you can’t get sensitive about it.”

“Yeah,” Mero added. “They’re all 12, they all have ADD, they forget about shit in a week.”
