Woman Hospitalized For 3 Days After Pet Chihuahua Defecated in Her Mouth as She Slept

Imagine spending three days in the hospital after your dog poops in your mouth while sleeping.

51-year-old Amanda Gommo woke up from her afternoon nap with sh*t in her mouth after her daughter’s chihuahua Belle became ill and suffered from diarrhea.

“I was having my afternoon nap with Belle like I always do when I suddenly felt something squirt in my mouth,” said Gommo. “It was disgusting, and I was hurling violently for hours after. I just couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth.”

After being taken to the vet, Belle was diagnosed with a stomach bug.

Shortly after, Gommo sought medical attention after exhibiting some of the same symptoms as the dog.

The mother of three was given painkillers for her stomach cramps, along with instructions to drink a lot of water to wash out any potential infection, and she was sent on her way.

But her symptoms worsened over the next 48 hours, and the pains gradually spread to every part of her body.

“The cramps got worse and worse until I could feel them all over my body — even in my legs,” Gommo declared. “I was so dehydrated from being sick and having diarrhea that my kidneys had shriveled to half their size.”

Gommo was quickly taken to the hospital once more, where doctors diagnosed her with a gastrointestinal infection passed through her body through her dog’s feces.

In the three days that followed, Gommo was rehydrated with electrolytes and glucose that she had lost due to the nasty infection.

“I was kept in hospital for three days until they’d flushed the infection out through a drip,” Gommo explained. “My discharge note said that I’d suffered a gastrointestinal infection caused by a dog defecating in my mouth — something doctors had never witnessed before.”

Also recovering from her stomach bug is Belle, the pet dog – but she may not be welcome on Gommo’s bed for quite some time.

“I’ve forgiven Belle for her little accident, and I still love her with all my heart,” Gommo stated. “But I will definitely be more mindful of what position we sleep in in the future!”
