Newark Man Says FanDuel Sportsbook Refused to Pay Out $82k Winnings: “You’d Rather Go To The Corner Bookies Now. You’re Not Getting Paid Here”

Back in July, legal sports betting kicked off in New Jersey at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, joining Delaware as the only states in the region to allow it.

Since then, the FanDuel Sportsbook has generated the most in gross revenues, among the five sports books that operate in the state.

But now, according to News 12, a Newark man says the thriving sportsbook is holding out on the big winnings.

Anthony Prince says he made a live bet for the Denver Broncos to beat the Oakland Raiders last Sunday, despite the Raiders’ success for nearly all four quarters.

But with only 1:10 left in the game, Prince put $110 down at a plus-75,000 for the Broncos to win, which would result in an $82,610 jackpot.

With 10 seconds left, the Broncos secured the win, landing Prince a life-changing winning ticket. But when he tried to collect his cash, the teller refused to pay up.

”They said the system had a glitch in it and they’re not obligated to pay for glitches,” Prince said, as he revealed the sportsbook offered him $500 and skybox seats for three Giants games for the inconvenience.

Prince declined the facility’s offer.

“The other guy said, ‘You should take what we give you because we don’t have to give you [anything] at all.’ I said, ‘Wow, for real,” Prince said.

In the meantime, FanDuel says the incident is under investigation.

“The government is taxing it now so I thought it would be a better situation,” he says. “You’d rather go to the corner bookies now. You’re not getting paid here.”
