A Clarksdale, Mississippi woman was found dead Wednesday, September 12th at a New Orleans truck stop, and now her family is asking for answers.
Truck Driver, Karmeshia Thomas, was found in a bunk inside of her big rig truck at the Mardi Gras Truck Stop. Karmeshia’s mother, Joyce Thomas, said her daughter called from the truck stop’s office on Sunday after her phone was stolen on Bourbon Street.
Joyce stated that Karmeshia was supposed to be home the next day. When she failed to show up, Joyce said she continued to call her daughter’s number, in hopes that she purchased a new phone with the same number.
When Joyce couldn’t get in touch with her daughter, she called the truck stop, according to WREG Memphis. Police were already on the scene after the truck stop manager found Karmeshia’s body, following a wellness check from her job.
“When I came out we banged on the window, didn’t get an answer, but we saw a lot of flies.” the manager said.
According to the coroner, the 25-year-old had been dead for more than a day. Her mother said that her daughter hadn’t paid for her parking spot since Sunday and wondered why no one checked on her sooner.
The cause of death is still under investigation. Karmeshia Thomas’s funeral will be held on Saturday and will be a closed casket due to the decomposition of the body.
