Back in February, Indianapolis Colts player Edwin Jackson was struck and killed by a drunk driver, while standing on the shoulder of 1-70 in Railroad City.
Jackson and another man, Jeffrey Monroe, were standing near a parked car, when Manuel Orrego-Zavala swerved into the shoulder, hitting and killing them both. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Upon Orrego’s arrest, the incident sparked a national debate, as he had been living in the United States illegally. In fact, at the time, Trump deemed the circumstances “disgraceful.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Five months later, Orrego pleaded guilty to two counts of “DUI that causes the death of another,” as he faced 16 years in prison with scheduling set for September.
Now, in the wake of his recent hearing, Orrego has been slapped with the maximum penalty in the incident that left both 26-year-old Jackson and his Uber driver, Monroe, dead.
According to TMZ, Orrego will serve 16 years in state prison, facing deportation upon his release.
