From “The Best Man,” “Love & Basketball,” and “Brown Sugar” to “The Best Man Holiday,” and more, Sanaa Lathan’s professional resume has expanded more than two decades. However, according to the veteran actress, her Hollywood experience hasn’t been all good.
“Just coming up in the business, I have been treated just horribly by some women that you may know,” the actress said Monday at Netflix’s “Nappily Ever After,” premiere in New York.
“I won’t call any names,” she added, “but when you’re working with somebody who’s maybe a little older than you – now I’m the older one – you don’t expect to get competition, and jealousy, and weird vibes on set. And I was very hurt, very early on in my career by a couple of different women.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But, luckily, in her new movie, where she plays Lynn Whitfield’s onscreen daughter, she says she didn’t have to deal with such weird vibes on set because Whitfield’s been a “light.”
“You can tell that,” Lathan said. “She’s so beautiful inside and out.”
