We’ve all heard some pretty bizarre stories regarding referees in recent history, and apparently Cam Newton can add his most recent encounter to the list.
During their 27-22 win over the New Orleans Saints, Panthers Quaterback Cam Newton took a pretty rough hit close to the out of bounds marker by New Orleans’ Tyeler Davison. The hit came after Newton threw an incomplete pass. No foul was called on the play, but it’s the alleged reasoning that has Newton and many others upset.
The 26 year old 2-time pro-bowler claims that when he asked why there was no call on the play, referee Ed Hochuli answered “you’re not old enough to get that call.” “I looked at him like ‘Jesus I didn’t know you had to have seniority to get a personal foul” Newton said in a post game interview.
An NFL spokesperson released a statement, saying: “Officials make decisions based upon the play on the field, and no other factors,” but didn’t exactly deny the claim.
Now of course situations like this one aren’t unheard of in sports, but this story has resurfaced a familiar conversation. What’s your take?
