Missouri only has one clinic that is providing abortions in the state.
As of Wednesday, there is only one clinic in Missouri that is able to provide women with abortions after one other clinic failed to follow the state’s new requirements, according to NBC News. Last month, a federal appeal’s judge ruled that Missouri can require doctors to have admitting privileges at hospitals close by before they can perform abortions. The rule was set to take effect on Monday after a judge issued an order.
Because the Columbia Planned Parenthood was unable to gain doctor privileges to go along with the new requirement, all scheduled abortions were canceled for Wednesday. This would have been the first mandate since it was issued, according to Planned Parenthood Great Plains spokeswoman Emily Miller. For now, the clinics will still assist with other services and procedures.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“We are unable to provide abortion services now, so we’ve been working with patients who were on the schedule for today for abortion appointments to let them know what their alternatives are,” Miller said. The only clinic able to perform abortions is the Planned Parenthood location for St. Louis.
Planned Parenthood has requested U.S. Western District Court Judge Brian Wimes to temporarily exempt the Columbia clinic from the new rules before Wednesday. There is no further detail on the status of the request.
