In the wake of Facebook’s biggest data breach ever, the California-based social networking service is looking to recover with a new product for more advanced video chats.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The product will serve as the company’s first electronic device, equipped with a 10 or 15-inch screen and 12-megapixel camera used to make “video calls easier and more intuitive.”
Facebook’s Portal and Portal Plus, according to The New York Times will also come complete with high-definition video and artificial intelligence software built into the camera to follow users as they move, to keep the flow of conversation steady. In addition to that, the device will also include Amazon’s Alexa.
The service’s first ever electronic device will be on sale for $349 and will be available for purchase on a separate site.
But, amid the service’s huge data breach, the company addressed privacy concerns on the new item with a kill switch for the front camera. It will also come with a cover for the lends.
In addition to that, according to the NY Times, the calls will be encrypted and the artificial intelligence software runs on the device itself, not the company’s servers.
