Remember last NFL season when Vice President Mike Pence took a visit to an Indianapolis Colts game but left before kick-off due to several players of the San Francisco 49ers kneeling?
Well, the dramatic departure seemed to cost taxpayers a pretty penny that could of went elsewhere after the Huffington Post uncovered new documents that suggest the estimated cost of the visit.
Pence tweeted, “I left today’s Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our flag, or our National Anthem.”
But, documents indicate the departure was premeditated after Pence’s staff informed reporters before the game that the vice president “may depart the game early,” according to the Huffington Post.
Secret Service expenses came up to $75,000, while Air Force Two operations cost roughly around $250,000, according to the Washington Post. This figure does not include lodging, local law enforcement and emergency services that were required for the visit, USAToday reports.
